Blog Topic # 5 Personal Review
Truman Capote’s In Cold Blood was truly a spectacular novel. It is the only real crime story I have read. Capote manages to fit in a great detail of writing in the novel. It does not overwhelm one but it actually provides a better picture. Capote stays true to the story and as terrifying as it is, it is necessary to fully show the extent of the murders and the cases. Capote also follows the life of the two murderers as they try to escape their fate. This provides an essential part to the story that give information as to why they were who they were. There wasn’t too much to dislike in this book overall and I have no complaints about the book. I think one of the most significant parts of this book was the drawing of the line of sanity and insanity. It really made me think about how sanity affects a person’s morals and decisions.
Very well thought out Tony! Just one thing to disagree with- you having no complaints with this book. I definitely have one complain! I did not enjoy the fact that towards the beginning of the novel, perhaps even the first quarter all together, was extremely boring to me. Capote provided us with too much background information leading me to becoming bored and uninterested. Due to the lack of interest, it took me a while before I was actually able to get into the plot itself. Yes, the line between sanity and insanity surely was significant. The parts of the novel when that is addressed interests me a lot more than reading about how the Clutters hang their clothes. I feel as though the addition of more sensory details would have helped Capote out. While it was easily to picture the scenes of the book, I felt that it was lacking that extra push in order to really captivate me.
